Story of Education in Zambezi Delta, Mozambique

Ten years ago there were no schools in the Zambezi Delta. Today Youth With a Mission in partnership with Mercy Air offer HOPE to real change in the Zambezi Delta Mozambique, by advancing and enhancing the Sena Literacy Program.

In 2000, Caitlin and Shephen Mbewe, relocated from Harare where they had met some years before, and set up home in the remote Zambezi Delta.  Caitlin had come out from the UK to Zimbabwe as a teacher during the 1990's and there met the love of her life Shephen, also a primary school teacher. They settled in Marromeu Mozambique, the last town before the Zambezi Delta.

The Zambezi Delta is remote, inaccessible by road and situated half way up the long country of Mozambique. Scattered all over the Delta are isolated communities of people who make their living from fishing and subsistence farming. In the majority of these villages there is no school of any kind and only a handful of people are literate.
